Maritime Authority Publishes First Statistical Release

The Maritime Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its first statistical release. The release covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which member organisations transferred their vessel lists and harbour functions to the Authority, and records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026.

At establishment, 1,284 vessels were carried on the provisional register: 742 pleasure craft under twelve metres, 168 larger pleasure craft, 214 fishing vessels, 96 workboats and service craft, 31 passenger vessels and 33 cargo vessels and tankers. The Authority maintains 67 aids to navigation: five lights, 46 buoys and 16 beacons and fixed marks. During the transition period 1,930 vessel movements were recorded in the Northgate Channel, 46 surveys were carried out under interim arrangements and 11 incidents were reported.

The Authority will publish statistics quarterly. The next release, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be published in October. The full release, including the fleet by class and the aids to navigation by type and area, is set out on the Statistics page of this site.
